I then noticed it wasn’t round. It was egg-shaped on top and wider on the bottom and it was getting closer and lower to me. It was orange-amber colored and it was like the light was alive! I pulled to he shoulder of the road and had my windows down there was no sound I killed my truck as traffic was very light and still no sound!
My binoculars were in the tool box of my truck so I got out and opened the tool box grabbed them. As I raised my binoculars to get a better look, without making a sound, left like warp speed on steroids! You cant blink that fast! No trail of smoke, no noise, just gone. It went off to the northwest across the Fort Hood reservation toward Gatesville. I know it was not from here, moving at what seemed like ten thousand miles an hour, or more.
I couldn’t wrap my head around it, but when I got home I called Skylark Airfield and Gray Army Airbase and asked if they had any air traffic or saw anything unusual on their radar at the time of my sighting. They said no and that it had been a slow night for them. I don’t share this with many outside of my little circle as I fear that they might have me committed! But that was as real as real gets!! We are not alone. Craig
At regular, fast intervals, the object would shoot down a stream of reddish-orange flames. We could also hear a constant beeping sound. I quickly brought the car to a complete stop to keep from running under the craft. The car's heater had been running to kill the frosty December air, but now the inside of my vehicle was so hot that I had to turn off her heater. I thought about turning the car around, but was afraid that I would get the tires stuck in the mud on the sides of the road as the ground was soft from recent rain so I decided against it.
I this point, I stepped out of the car, and Vickie and Colby followed. We all could now hear a steady "roaring" sound coming from the object and Colby got so scared that he ran back to the car and Vickie got back inside with him to comfort him. In a strange way, I was fascinated this thing as I had never seen anything like that before and I really wanted to find out more about it.
As I stood watching the craft, suddenly the sky was full of helicopters. I assumed that they were all coming from Tomball Airfield, to the northwest of Houston, or perhaps Ellington Air Force Base, to the south of Houston. However, the object began to lift up into the air and proceed to the southwest. All of the helicopters seemed to now be in pursuit of the craft, or for all we knew, they were escorting it somewhere.
As I returned to her car, the door handle was so hot that I could hardly open the door. My hand was burned just trying to get back inside the vehicle. I immediately turned on her air conditioner to cool off the inside of the car and we started back in the direction of home.
Making it a very fast trip, we arrived home and all three of us found ourselves in extremely poor health. My head and neck were blistered, and soon my eyes were completely swollen shut. We were all terribly nauseated. After a couple of miserable days at home, I checked into a local hospital where I was treated as a burn victim and I remaining there for the next fifteen days!
Colby and his grandmother also suffered similar symptoms. Colby had problems with his eyes, and Vickie was losing her hair, and her scalp was numb and painful. All three of us were treated for radiation poisoning and our condition was listed by the Doctors as life-threatening. Before long, skin sores developed, weight loss had began, and skin cancer was diagnosed.
What is not commonly known and what we would later be told was that there were several other witnesses to this strange craft on that particular night as it slowly made its way along Highway 1485 through Piney Woods. The local air bases were questioned, but would not admit to sending any helicopters out that night. The black top road was badly damaged by the emissions from the craft, but it was very quickly repaired.
Investigators were at a loss to explain the events of that night, except to say that I, Vickie, and Colby had encountered a craft from another world, or an experimental government aircraft. We sued the U.S. Government for medical damages, but during a congressional hearing, the Department of the Army Inspector General denied any military involvement in the case and dismissed our case. Betty Cash and Vickie Landrum
EDITOR'S NOTES: Betty Joyce Cash died at the age of just sixty-nine on December the 29th of 1998, which was exactly eighteen years to the day after her close encounter with a diamond-shaped UFO. Her friend, Vickie Marzelia Landrum, died at the of age eighty-three on September the 12th of 2007.
For most of his life, Colby Landrum largely chose to remain quite about the experience. But, in 2009, he broke his silence. Appearing on the documentary series "UFO Hunters", he confronted Lieutenant Colonel Sarran about the government's involvement. Sadly, like his grandmother and Betty Cash, he walked away with no answers.
Also, in an 2013 interview, Colby expressed his frustration with the government's denials. He also revealed frightening details about the event's aftermath... "I can remember "them" coming out to the house several times. I don't know who they were - whether they were government officials or what - but, they would come out and test us for radiation every so often. I was told to be careful because somebody could scoop me up and take me away." - Colby Landrum
At 11:00 PM, I received a call from Pedro Saucedo who claimed he was located about four miles west of Levelland. He was with his friend, Joe Salaz, and the two were driving in Pedro's pickup truck when they saw a brightly lit, cigar-shapeded object moving in their direction. As the object approached, Pedro's car engine began to sputter, and his headlights went out. Finally, the car rolled to a stop. Later, a terrified Saucedo would sign a statement which indicated that the object was about two hundred feet long. Calling from the small town of Whiteface, I dismissed the call as I thought the two had been drinking.
At 11:45 PM, I received a second call from a man identified only as Mr. "W". The man was driving near the town of Whitharral, located about four miles east of Levelland, when he came upon a brilliantly lit, egg-shaped object. The object was actually sitting on the pavement in the middle of the road! Mr."W's" car engine stopped, and his headlights failed. Frightened, he left his vehicle, and after a brief period of time, the object silently lifted up to about two hundred feet and disappeared. His car started back up, and he sped away to make his phone call to me.
At 12:00 AM, I received a third call, this time from a man who was traveling eleven miles north of Levelland. He spotted an unusual flying craft which had also landed on the road. His car also faltered, and he sat watching the silent object for a brief period of time, until it rose up and disappeared into the night. Again, after the craft left the area, his car started, he left the scene, and called the Police station.
At 12:10 AM, a nineteen year old freshman from Texas Tech University, Newell Wright, was driving nine miles east of Levelland, when his car engine began to cut out, and his lights faltered. After stopping his car, checking for some loose wire under the hood, he suddenly notices a vivid object sitting on the pavement ahead of him. He described the object as about one hundred and twenty-five feet long, bluish-green in color. Frightened, he tried to start his car again, but to no avail. He sat in his car, hoping that another car would come by, but none did. After a little while, the object silently rose and faded away into the sky. Afraid to make a report, the young student waited to tell his parents when they arrived home from a trip. They encouraged him to report what he had seen. He made a statement at the Sheriff's office, and his report was included in the U.S. Air Force's "Project Blue Book".
At 12:15 AM, I received a call from a man in a phone booth near Whitharral, who, as he was driving nine miles north of Levelland, encountered an object of some kind sitting in the middle of the road. He had the same mechanical problems as the other motorists, and after the craft took off, his engine started again. At this point, my curiosity and concern motivated me to call patrolmen in the area and report what I had been hearing. By now, I had to admit that "something odd" was going on. In a matter of a few minutes, two different officers acknowledged that they had seen two different flying objects with extremely bright lights, but had not yet encountered any engine problems.
At 12:45 AM, a man driving west of Levelland, very close to the spot of Saucedo's initial sighting, reported a large orange ball approaching in his direction. The man testified that the unknown craft softly landed on the road about one fourth of a mile away. The motorist also stated that the craft, orange at first, became a bluish-green color, spanning the width of the road upon landing. After landing, his engine also failed, and he sat in the cab of his truck, illuminated by the glow from the craft. After a time, the craft lifted up and left the area. This man made his report the next day.
At 1:15 AM, I received a call from a truck driver from Waco, Texas who stated that while driving northeast of Levelland, he witnessed a large, glowing object, and at the same time, his truck engine failed. He was extremely frightened. The driver added that the object was about two hundred feet long. After the object left the area, his truck roared back to life, and he left the area.
At 1:30 AM, I received the first definite sighting of the object by two law enforcement officers. Sheriff Clem and Deputy McCullough. They had observed a "large, glowing object," pass across the highway. The two tried to track the object by the radio with calls from me. They were about four to five miles outside of Levelland when they saw the object. The two officers stated that the object looked like a large, red sun and it lit up the entire highway as it passed over.
The next day, the town was bulging over with reporters, awaiting some official explanation for the events of that night. The Air Force did investigate these sightings, but offered no reasonable cause for what was seen that night. Patrolman A.J. Fowler, Levelland Police Department
